Babcock awarded 3 certifications in IMS audit

Powerlines business combines Quality, Environmental and Safety management systems

An integrated management system (IMS) ensures comprehensive streamlining of management systems, based on international best practice, in the fields of Quality, Safety and Environment within the operations of the company.

Babcock awarded 3 certifications in IMS audit

Our Powerlines business recently participated in its inaugural IMS Audit and was found compliant.  The audit was performed by 4 auditors from DQS in April, with preparation ongoing from late 2014. The team at Powerlines, with assistance from Babcock’s SHEQ team put in significant effort to ensure that both the Nigel factory and Hendrina construction site were ready for the final certification audit, including going through a “readiness” audit with DQS in early March 2015.

With the introduction of an integrated management system the goal was to extend our documented management system to include our transmission line construction sites, as well as integrating our system to ensure compliance with international best practice.  The IMS audit and certification also gives our employees the assurance that they are working for an organisation that takes safety seriously by complying with all applicable and relevant legislations as well as best practices.  Powerlines is the second oldest SABS certified ISO9001 company in South Africa.  Previous ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001 certification was awarded on  the Nigel Works, independent of the SABS9001 certification.

Local and international customers require independent certification by an internationally reputable certifying body (such as DQS) of a company’s management systems to ensure that they are dealing with an impeccable supplier of services and products.
