A day in the life of a diesel mechanic - Ogley

From apprentice to qualified diesel mechanic

Ogley started his journey with Babcock in 2014 as an apprentice and after four years of experiential learning, he moved to Steelpoort where he has since been working as a diesel mechanic onsite at a key Babcock customer in open cast mining.

A day in the life of a diesel mechanic - Ogley

Why did you become a diesel mechanic?
I wouldn't be happier doing anything else. I encounter new challenges every day which encourages learning, and enhances my skills.

Which is your favourite machine to work on?
The Volvo articulated dump truck is my favourite machine. It is one of the strongest, safest and most reliable haulers designed to operate comfortably across rough terrain. The Volvo Full Suspension (FS) model is designed with independent wheel movement, making it possible for the machine to crawl out of rough and slippery ramps. It's every operator’s favourite machine.

What do you do in your spare time?
Out of work I have always been active in soccer. I also build things with anything I can find in the garage.
