Graduate programme ticks the right boxes

Cathleen Beukes commends Babcock's Graduate Programme as a platform that helps young engineers build confidence and quickly find their feet in the engineering field.

Cathleen finds the combination between site exposure, fabrication, manufacturing and the office design phase remarkably effective and helpful in understanding every phase of the business. “The programme helps one build confidence and grow quickly in the engineering field. Of note is that the EIT programme is already in line with the Engineering Council of South Africa’s requirements, which makes it easier for graduates to comply and register professionally.”

Cathleen also commends Babcock for investing in young engineers today, which she believes is key to helping create and secure the future of South Africa.

Born and bred in Pretoria, Cathleen is a lover of community, friends and family. She is a highly active person who enjoys hiking, surfing and anything that has to do with adventure and nature. She holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Pretoria. In her fourth year of study, she also specialised in aeronautical engineering and went on to complete a research project on shape optimisation, with specific focus on a Formula 1 car’s rim.

Looking ahead, Cathleen believes there is so much more to learn at Babcock and ample room for growth. “I will take on every challenge that comes my way and learn from the experience. Hopefully, in the next few years I will be able to register as a professional engineer and also complete my master’s degree thereafter,” she concludes.
