Lehlohonolo, 29, grew up in Theunissen, a small town in the Free State, where opportunities were often limited. Despite the challenges, his community shaped his resilience and determination. Before joining the program, Lehlohonolo supported himself by selling shoes online while studying short courses to improve his skills. However, the instability of online sales and unemployment left him struggling financially and emotionally, often questioning his future.
In 2021, his persistence paid off when he joined the Afrika Tikkun program, supported by Babcock as one of the Top 50 sponsors championing youth employment. Hosted by Innovative Knowledge Worx (IKWorx), an ICT company in Pretoria, Lehlohonolo found his passion for technology reignited. His role involved learning the fundamentals of software development, creating websites and applications, and working independently on projects under the guidance of skilled professionals.
The program provided more than just skills—it offered a sense of purpose and professional direction. As the program concluded, Lehlohonolo’s dedication earned him a three-month contract at IKWorx, which soon transitioned into a permanent position. Today, he proudly continues to contribute to the company, applying his expertise in software development and expanding his professional network within the ICT industry.
Looking ahead, Lehlohonolo aspires to advance within IKWorx or other leading ICT firms in South Africa or across the continent. He credits the YES Program and Babcock’s sponsorship for laying the foundation for his career growth and for giving him the tools to succeed in an industry he loves.
“To Babcock and all the sponsors who make this program possible, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Your support has changed my life and provided hope to countless others. The program is a beacon of opportunity for underserved youth, and I hope it continues to transform lives.”
