Proactive Vehicle Safety Earns September Africa Safety Star Award

Babcock is proud to recognise Nolwethu, Operations Administrator at our Isando branch, as the Africa Safety Star winner for September 2026 for her outstanding commitment to safety and proactive approach to risk management.

Nolwethu has demonstrated exceptional dedication by consistently conducting thorough pre-use inspections of both employee and company vehicles. Her meticulous approach ensures that critical safety components, including tyres, lights, brakes, windscreen wipers, mirrors, licence discs and overall vehicle condition, are inspected and verified before vehicles are placed into service.

Any defects or potential hazards identified during these inspections are promptly reported, enabling corrective action to be taken before they can pose a risk to employees.

Going beyond routine inspections, Nolwethu has taken the initiative to record, analyse and track vehicle inspection findings, providing valuable insights into vehicle safety performance across the business. Her Vehicle Safety Inspection Trend Analysis highlighted a strong level of vehicle compliance and roadworthiness while identifying important opportunities for improvement.

What makes Nolwethu’s contribution particularly noteworthy is her commitment to fostering a positive safety culture. She actively encourages colleagues to adopt the same vigilant approach to vehicle safety and has willingly offered support to other Business Units to help maintain vehicle roadworthiness across Babcock sites.

Her dedication helps ensure employees travel safely to and from work while reducing the risk of vehicle-related incidents.

Nolwethu’s proactive attitude, attention to detail, strong safety awareness and unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards embody the values of Babcock. Through her efforts to identify trends, implement preventative measures, promote safe vehicle practices and drive continual improvement, she has made a meaningful and lasting contribution to a safer working environment.

Congratulations, Nolwethu!
