When Babcock Australasia needed to assess a supplier in South Africa, it turned to colleagues already on the ground. The successful collaboration not only delivered the assurance required but also earned two members of Babcock Africa's SHEQ team the Africa Safety Star Award for June 2026. Supplier assurance is an important part of maintaining the quality, safety and compliance standards our customers expect. Each year, Babcock's Australasian Quality Assurance team conducts supplier assurance visits across national and international partners to verify that suppliers consistently meet the required standards. For this assessment, Babcock Africa's SHEQ team worked closely with colleagues in Australasia to agree the scope, requirements and audit protocol before the assessment began. SHEQ Compliance Officer Renier and Quality Manager Lorin then carried out the audit in South Africa, assessing the supplier against the relevant ISO 9001 requirements. The assessment focused on product safety and quality management, examining how the supplier identifies, manages and mitigates risk, while reviewing the effectiveness of its governance processes. The completed audit provided the Australasian team with the assurance required to support its supplier approval process. "The work completed has given us the level of assurance we needed with this supplier," says Kim, Australasian Quality Assurance Advisor. "Our colleagues' willingness to collaborate across borders has been outstanding, and their great work successfully delivered an important outcome for us." By drawing on local expertise, the assessment was completed efficiently without the need for international travel, while maintaining the same globally aligned quality standards applied across the Babcock Group. Renier and Lorin's professionalism, technical expertise and commitment to quality were recognised through the Africa Safety Star Award for June 2026, celebrating the important contribution they made to the project. For Jason, Quality Assurance Manager for Land in Australasia, the project demonstrated the value of collaboration across the Group. "Renier and Lorin treated our supplier as if it were their own," he says. "That's exactly the kind of support that makes the global network worth having. I can't thank the Africa team enough." The project is a great example of how collaboration across the Babcock Group enables teams to share expertise, uphold common standards and deliver trusted outcomes - regardless of where in the world the work takes place.
