Shoni Sinyoni, one of three recent graduates of the Babcock Graduate Programme, believes the programme has provided a tremendous learning opportunity for her to establish her career in the finance environment. “The programme enabled me to further the skills I was so desperately seeking to learn and establish myself?,” she says.
One of the fundamentals she learnt from the programme is the importance of collaboration. “Ask for help when you need it, and it can be provided. It doesn’t help to let yourself get overwhelmed and drown in your workload, especially when there are mentors available to help you,” she says.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, Shoni matriculated from the Langlaagte Technical High School in 2012, before completing her undergrad degree and eventually a postgrad degree with the University of North West, Vaal Campus. She majored in Chartered Accountancy and Financial Accountancy (Honours) in her undergrad and postgrad, respectively.
Her first job was at Adapt IT as a support consultant for over a year, before she joined the Babcock Graduate Programme in 2020, “literally when the world was shutting down due to Covid-19,” she recalls. The chance to join the programme came through a LinkedIn inbox message from a Babcock HR representative.
“The Babcock Graduate Programme provides the youth with opportunities to grow and enable skills for them to be ready for the corporate world. It has offered me a good base to become an accountant and find ways to consume knowledge through exposure,” she concludes.
