Having first switched to DAF Trucks in 2024, Commodity Logistix Managers Africa (CLM Africa) is expanding its growing side tipper fleet with ten additional DAF XF480 units. The decision to scale up follows the strong performance of its initial five DAF trucks and a compelling total solution from Babcock, the DAF Trucks distributor in Southern Africa.
As a fast-growing logistics and commodity trading company, CLM Africa sought a reliable fleet partner. The company initially ran a different truck brand for years before making the switch to DAF last year. A key factor in this decision was its long-standing relationship with Babcock’s Alfred Hoyer, who had worked with CLM Africa for over six years in a previous role. When Hoyer introduced the DAF offering, CLM Africa was confident in both the product and the support behind it.
A Total Transport Solution
Beyond strong relationships, the deal was secured by Babcock’s ability to provide a complete transport solution. The trucks are financed through Babcock Financial Services, with additional financing from an independent provider. The package also includes a maintenance contract, on-site servicing, driver training and Babcock’s Executrax telematics system.
“We streamlined the entire process for CLM Africa—from selecting the right vehicle to securing financing and maintenance,” says Hoyer. “By bundling everything in one place, we made truck ownership effortless for the client.”
Performance That Delivers
The first five XF480 Smart Spec models have already demonstrated impressive fuel efficiency, driver comfort and reliability—key factors in CLM Africa’s decision to invest in ten more units, along with new trailers.
At the core of the XF480’s efficiency is its Paccar MX-13 Euro engine, delivering 480 hp and 2,500 Nm of torque. The engine’s advanced common rail injection system, with 2,500 bar injection pressure, optimizes fuel combustion for reduced consumption. Paired with a ZF 12-Speed Traxon Direct-Drive gearbox, the XF480 ensures smooth power delivery and fuel savings for long-haul operations.
Inside the cab, an intuitive driver interface, ergonomic design, and real-time coaching features make the XF480 easy to operate. “Drivers adapt quickly to the DAF system, and with some training, they can maximize performance and efficiency almost immediately,” Hoyer adds.
With CLM Africa’s latest fleet expansion, DAF continues to cement its reputation as a premium, fuel-efficient truck brand in the African transport sector.
