Babcock has launched a specialised DAF Trucks repair unit within its component centre in Bartlett, Boksburg. This strategic initiative aims to provide comprehensive in-house component repair services for DAF trucks, ensuring enhanced service delivery and reduced turnaround times for Babcock’s DAF customers.
The repair centre offers warranty and goodwill repairs on gearboxes and differential components for DAF trucks. Additionally, it provides affordable second-life components tailored for Babcock’s second-hand truck market, thereby extending the operational lifespan of DAF trucks.
The first repairs are scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2025. Rhenier Kapp, Head of Technical, says, “Expanding our repair and remanufacturing services to include DAF trucks was a natural step, given our wealth of expertise in gearbox and engine repairs within Babcock’s equipment business. We are leveraging the skills and tools already available at our component centre in Bartlett to offer DAF truck customers the same high quality repair standards. “However, fully rebuilding components is very specialised, requiring special high-grade tools. To this end, we have invested in the tools as well as training of 8 employees from our Equipment business who will to be able to undertake these more specialised jobs.”
The team received comprehensive training conducted by representatives from DAF’s head office in the Netherlands to ensure they are equipped with the latest technical knowledge. Marcel Raijmakers, the official component trainer, led the training at the facility, covering both technical and administrative aspects.
Kapp emphasises the benefits of this repair centre to Babcock’s customers. "By bringing DAF truck component repairs in-house, we can offer quicker turnaround times, providing our customers with a one-stop-shop experience. “This initiative demonstrates Babcock's dedication to collaboration, service efficiency and support for DAF truck owners,” he concludes. Babcock offers breakdown support and standard service for DAF customers at 14 servicing dealers across southern Africa.
