Babcock Africa Safety Star – July 2025
Congratulations to Michael, Lifting Machine Inspector at Babcock’s Plant team in Jet Park, who has been named the Africa Safety Star for July 2025.
Michael is being recognised for designing a safer, smarter solution for the load testing of slings. During testing, these slings are exposed to high pressure—raising the risk of a failure that could launch dangerous projectiles from the test station. Such an incident could result in serious injury to nearby personnel.
This is a powerful example of how proactive thinking and individual action can prevent harm and improve outcomes for everyone. Michael’s contribution supports Babcock’s commitment to a “Safety Starts with Me” culture—and shows how engineering insight can directly protect lives.
