Babcock’s commitment to education and skills development continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young South Africans. As part of our mission to support the next generation of engineers, we awarded full bursaries to three top-performing female students through the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair. These bursaries cover tuition, accommodation and study materials while also providing holiday work experience to help recipients gain hands-on industry exposure.
With the 2025 academic year approaching, two of our bursary recipients have confirmed their university placements, and we are excited to share their updates:
Mbasa Hamann will be pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at Nelson Mandela University. She describes receiving the Babcock bursary as a life-changing opportunity:
"Coming from a family that is not very well off, the financial burden of higher education was a major concern. This bursary not only covers my academic expenses but also provides valuable holiday work experience, giving me financial stability and practical industry exposure. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and motivated to make the most of it."
Alizwa Sobuza will be studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. For her, the Babcock bursary represents a chance to push beyond limitations and make a difference:
"This bursary is an opportunity to do more than I could on my own. It allows me to develop my skills and contribute to solving real-world problems. I am thankful for the opportunity and excited about the journey ahead."
At Babcock, we believe in investing in young talent and creating pathways for success. We are proud to be part of these students’ journeys and look forward to seeing them thrive in their academic and professional careers.
