Safety Through Curiosity – Mandla Named Africa Safety Star for October 2025
Babcock is proud to congratulate Mandla, Driver at the Isando branch, who has been awarded the Africa Safety Star for October 2025 for his commitment to safety and innovation.
Mandla exemplified the Babcock commitment of “Be Curious” by identifying and implementing a simple yet highly effective safety improvement within the service workshop.
He observed that existing tyre storage practices could be refined to further improve safety and workspace organisation. Motivated by care for his colleagues, Mandla proposed and introduced the use of dedicated tyre stands to store truck tyres safely and efficiently.
This initiative delivered multiple benefits:
Improved Safety: Clear walkways enhance safety and provide unobstructed access during emergencies.
Operational Efficiency: Tyres are now securely stored, preventing accidental movement and injuries.
Better Space Management: Vertical stacking and structured storage free up floor space and simplify tyre tracking.
Enhanced Workplace Culture: A cleaner, more organised environment improves morale and presents a professional image to clients and inspectors.
