Babcock manages Eskom’s Boilerserve repair and maintenance contracts at a number of coal fired power stations, with focus on the feasibility of new build options, performance upgrades, efficiency improvements and emissions reductions.
Eskom recently presented Babcock with the award for the safest contractor on site during an outage at its Kendal Power Station in Mpumalanga. Babcock was the only contractor without an incident during the outage.
“We’re delighted to have been recognised for our site management team’s commitment to driving safety at this site and ensuring that everyone goes home safe every day,” says Mpho Matshane, General Manager SHEQ Risk Management at Babcock’s Ntuthuko Generation business unit, which provides engineering, construction, maintenance and upgrade opportunities to the African steam generation market.
The Eskom award recognises Babcock’s outstanding safety achievement over a period of approximately 180 000 man-hours worked by around 555 employees in an extremely high risk environment during the outage.
