Innovating for a Safer Workplace at Babcock
At Babcock, safety is a top priority, and Jerome has set a great example by taking proactive steps to enhance it. Named Africa Safety Star for January 2025, Jerome identified a stability risk in the lifting devices used for front axles and tie rods and took action to improve them.
He noticed that the existing lifting setup lacked stability when handling heavy loads. Instead of accepting the risk, Jerome worked with management to develop a single, secure lifting device. After precise measurements and collaboration with an engineering supplier, the new device was successfully designed, tested, and certified with a Safe Working Load (SWL) certificate. It is now making the workplace safer and more efficient for his colleagues.
Jerome didn’t stop there. He also saw the need for a locking mechanism on the workshop’s roller shutter doors to prevent unintended closures, adding another layer of safety.
