Tebogo Chabeli was first introduced to the Babcock Graduate Programme through a social media post shared by a friend from university, and the rest is history. Two years later, she has completed the programme and is in junior management training within the Equipment business.
“To provide context, the world of finance is popular within financial services providers such as banks and investment companies and that’s where most graduates aspire to build a career. Unknowingly, the bulk of their studies like cost accounting, fixed asset management and other International Financial Reporting Standards are best practiced in Babcock type industries such as Engineering and Mining,” she says.
Some of the key fundamentals she learnt from the programme include the importance of time management and organisational skills, as well as the importance of each small part in the greater operations. This is in line with Babcock’s “Collaborate” principle, which stresses that “Babcock is greater than the sum of its parts”.
A smart, sociable and fun-loving mother of one, Tebogo is a BCom Accounting graduate from the University of Johannesburg. She describes herself as academically goal-driven and focused, willing to sacrifice a lot to achieve her dreams. She is professionally hard working, innovative and willing to go the extra mile for as long as the environment permits.
Looking ahead, she wants to further her studies, with a view to scoring a future senior management role within the company. “I will continue innovating to improve processes and boosting the company’s profitability. I plan to further my studies in 2023 with a CIMA NQF level 8 qualification, with the long-term goal of a senior management position,” concludes Tebogo.
